The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX55 digital camera is based around a 16.2 effective megapixel, backside-illuminated Sony Exmor R CMOS image sensor, coupled to a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar-branded, prism-folded 5x optical zoom lens. Actual focal lengths range from 4.7 to 23.5mm, yielding a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 26 to 130mm. The maximum aperture varies from F3.5 at wide angle to F4.8 at telephoto, and helpfully, the DSC-TX55 offers Sony’s Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, useful for combatting blur caused by camera shake.

Just 12.2mm slim, the Cyber-shot™ TX55 fuses luxurious styling with serious features you’d expect on a far bigger, bulkier camera. Experience 3D imaging and Full HD video, plus easy-to-use operation that puts DSLR-like pictures within everyone’s reach.

The back of the DSX-TX500 features a 3.3-inch OLED touch screen, Through which the camera’s multiple scene modes can be selected. The DSC-TX55 comes with several unique modes, including a 3D Still Image mode that captures a simulated 3D picture by taking multiple photos, and an Intelligent Sweep Panorama with High Resolution mode that can record a 42.9-megapixel panorama shot by automatically stitching multiple photos together.

Like every other camera under the sun, the true worth of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX55 will depend on its picture quality. But we’re impressed by its small size and dashing good looks, and the list of features jammed inside this compact snapper is not to be sniffed at. Stay tuned for the full review soon.

Developed by Kawai, a Japan-based musical instrument maker, this iPhone application uses your smartphone’s camera to scan sheet notes and play the music back to you in real-time. The app can recognize both handwritten and printed score in any color and even under weak lighting, according to Kawai. “It also offers a few other bells and whistles, for example a function that allows you to store the notes you scanned first and play the melody afterwards,” according to TechCrunch.

Named Gakufu Camera, the app isn’t perfect: While it can read the notes and play tones back, it can’t yet get the timing right. With the help of Gakufu Camere you can just read the music ‘s world affairs real time even that you do know nothing about a staff. But expect the product to improve as Kawai releases new versions. Right now, the app is only available in the Japanese App Store ($4.50/350 yen) for iOS 4.0 and up. “But as Kawai is a global company and the app is already available in Japanese and English, expect it to hit other markets rather sooner than later,” TechCrunch notes.

A huge thumbs up to James on this one! I wonder how I succeeded to miss this one, but here is Gakufu Camera, a little iPhone application from Kawai that will play notes written on a partition. Simply scan your partition and let Gakufu Camera do the rest… Sure this application is not perfect since you have to do a lot of modification regarding tempo and other musical goodies (Good lord, I don’t even remember anything from my 7 years learning Flute)… but at least this little app will be really useful for anyone who’s learning music and needs to practice their technique.
