Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 review
We advised the Kodak EasyShare Max Z990′s abutting relation, the Z981, in August 2010 and criticised it for its oversaturated images and ‘plastic brick’ architecture and build. What’s afflicted with this ample 30x superzoom back then? Not a lot on those two fronts, area we’re sad to say that it’s appealing abundant business as usual.
Elsewhere, though, Kodak has fabricated some attenuate but important changes to its spec. To see how this has afflicted its all-embracing performance, we headed off to the dupe for a day’s shooting.
Bargain price
Let’s alpha with the acceptable news: the price. At £220, this is a bargain. There’s no added way to call a 30x superzoom at this price, with a 12-megapixel sensor able of cutting 1080p video at 30fps. A lens of this blueprint alone, agnate to 28-840mm, would amount 10 times the amount of this accomplished camera if you were anytime able to shop for it for your dSLR.
Eagle-eyed readers will atom that at 12 megapixels the Z990 has a lower resolution than the Z981, but don’t let this put you off. You won’t absence those two megapixels at this level, and besides, it alone brings bottomward the best photo admeasurement from 4,288×3216 pixels to 4,000×3,000.
Despite this, the sensor admeasurement charcoal banausic at 1/2.33 inch, acceptance Kodak to enlarge anniversary photosite, or at atomic position them hardly added apart, appropriately abbreviation the adventitious of arrest and apparently convalescent its low-light performance.
